Which Vehicles Deliver the Best Initial Quality in 2026?

It\'s no secret that new vehicles are experiencing more problems than ever before, largely because they come packed with more technology than at any other point in history. That was certainly the trend until this year, however, as the average number of problems per 100 vehicles has declined for the first time in quite a while, according to the 2026 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study.

As always, some automakers and models stand out—for better or for worse. Today, let\'s take a look at the brands that deliver the best initial quality. Before we begin, it\'s important to point out that the Initial Quality Study only measures problems reported during the first 90 days of ownership. In other words, these results should be taken with a grain of salt.

An Average of 175 PP100 (Problems Per 100 Vehicles)

For the 2026 edition of the study, Porsche tops the rankings with just 138 PP100, an even more impressive achievement considering the brand offers an option list longer than Santa Claus\'s wish list. Korean luxury automaker Genesis ranks second with 151 PP100, an excellent result. Ford rounds out the top three with 152 PP100, followed by Lexus at 156 PP100, Nissan at 156 PP100, and Buick at 162 PP100. Hyundai and Kia continue to perform well with 165 PP100 and 175 PP100, respectively. Subaru and Chevrolet also stand out with 170 PP100 and 171 PP100.

One of the biggest surprises of 2026 is undoubtedly Land Rover, which makes its way into the top 10 with 173 PP100. I\'ve always been a fan of the British automaker, but it has unfortunately become well known for its questionable reliability. The 2026 study suggests that the brand has made significant improvements over the past few years.

Porsche therefore claims the title for the best initial quality among all brands this year. However, Ford posts the best result among high-volume automakers, an achievement that certainly deserves recognition.
